Dear Aunt Enid,
Your panache and qualities such as your independence as a woman and the way that you danced to your own tune have always inspired me. I would often tell my friends about my great-aunt with the fabulous style and love for life.
As Nietzsche said:
'...and those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.'
May you Rest In Peace. Keep dancing auntie. You are the ultimate Golden Girl.
Much love.
Your great niece,
Karon Waldron

I remember the very first time I saw Aunt Enid come to our school as a visiting nurse. I was so impressed that I told all my friends that she was my aunt. In those days, not too many women were visible in terms of having a career or being independent. I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I admired her as a role model because of the way she carried herself. She was uniquely impactful. There was a presence about her demeanor and voice that commanded your attention.
As I got older, I got to know more about her. Cricket was her sport. She loved science…the space program in particular. She loved her family. Although she didn’t have any children of her own, she was a nurturing woman who dedicated her life to nursing people in need and being a supportive caregiver to those closest to her. I recall Aunt Enid living with and caring for her mother, fondly known as Mother B, in Guyana until her death. She did the same for her longtime companion, Everest, as well as her sister, Florizel.
I remember when my sister, Lynette, lived in her studio apartment in D.C. My family of four drove in from Toronto for a visit. We were pleasantly surprised to see both my Aunt Florizel and Aunt Enid there, ready to party! We ate, we laughed, we cried, we danced. It was such a joy to be in their company.
As the years went on, we saw less and less of each other, but Aunt Enid thoughtfully sent me a birthday card every year. For my 50th, she made the trip to Toronto, and stayed for a whole week. As we prepared for the celebrations, Aunt Florizel used her talents to arrange magnificent floral bouquets, while Aunt Enid added her special touch to the festivities, getting up early to help with food, music, decorations, etc. It was a fabulous time!
The last time I saw Aunt Enid was four years ago on an impromptu road trip through Florida. We dropped by unexpectedly, and were greeted at the door by Aunt Enid’s warm smile and embrace. It was a short visit, but I’m so grateful to have shared that moment in time with her. She will always live in my heart. Rest well, Aunt Enid.

My name is Lynette Waldron, one of Aunt Enid’s nieces. Celebrating 98 years of her life. Well lived. Having enjoyed many fun times with her, I fondly remember holidaying in Jamaica together, partying at Edward Seaga’s private residence (the Prime Minister of Jamaica at the time); lounging by the poolside, surrounded by balloons, eating local delicacies, and drinking the famous Jamaican rum punch (which I have been making ever since). There are lots of memorable times such as those…too many to mention.
On behalf of the Waldron family, we would all like to thank Jaimie for taking over the torch from her mother, Faye, in caring for Aunt Enid. What a wonderful job they both did! Jaimie continued looking after Aunt Enid’s affairs, and ensured that she was well taken care of.
Lastly, thanks to Ingrid Rose’s eldest daughter, Shannon, for hosting a Christmas holiday Zoom call this past December. This was the last time we were able to see and spend time with Aunt Enid. Even though it was a virtual gathering, it was a blessing to see her smiling face, hear her laughter, and even hear her singing her favorites carols.
What will stick with me forever is the memory of how elegant she always looked. Enid would make heads turn in her mannerisms, style, personality, and grace. She always looked like a million dollars!
She will be greatly missed. May she rest in eternal peace.
