Guillaume Paulemon

Obituary of Guillaume Paulemon

Guillaume Paulemon was born on May 8, 1929 in Grand Bois, Haiti. He passed away on September 19, 2021 in Port Charlotte, FL at the age of 92 years old after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His parents were Philomene (née André) and Auxila Paulemon. He married Andreenne Lauture on December 28, 1961 in Port au Prince, Haiti. They emigrated to the United States in 1965 and resided in Stamford, CT for the next 30 years. Guillaume was never afraid of hard work and spent many years working several jobs to provide for his family. Memorably, he worked as a machine operator at Pitney Bowes for 25 years before retiring and moving to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1996. While in Stamford, Guillaume was active in the Haitian community. His 4 Wells Avenue home was often the gathering place for the young Haitian community to exchange ideas, get advice, and share meals. Guillaume was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of the Basilica of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Stamford. After retiring to Florida in 1996, Guillaume became an active parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte where he was a member of the Haitian choir for several years. He was an avid WWE fan and loved to record matches and watch them with family and friends. He loved to read, spend time in his garden, take long, early morning walks with his daughter Idelle, visits to the mall and Costco and long phone conversations. He spent his retirement years traveling the world, a sacrifice he put off in his younger years to provide for his family. His favorite meal was ‘diri ak pois congo and viande kabrit (haitian style rice and pigeon peas with roasted goat meat). He loved to pray. He loved his family and friends. He loved life. He loved God. Guillaume was predeceased by his wife Andreenne and son Jean Guillaume and numerous siblings. He is survived by his daughters: Nicole of Port au Prince, Haiti, Idelle of Port Charlotte, FL and Marie Carmel of Stamford, CT; sons: Gerald and his wife Denise of Norwalk, CT, Fritz and his wife Nancy of Augusta, GA, and Bert (aka Louis Lemon) of Pembrook Pines, FL; numerous sisters and brothers; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. Guillaume will be dearly missed. He was a beloved father, brother, friend, confident and provider to so many throughout his life. He passed through death much as he passed through life: with dignity, grace and fearlessness. The train he has eagerly awaited for the past 9 months has finally arrived and he is enjoying an eternal banquet in heaven.
