Obituary of Leroy Kenneth Rogers, Sr.

Leroy Kenneth Rogers, Sr. was born August 16, 1938 in Keyser, WV. His parents were Delmore and Ethel VanMeter Rogers. He departed this life on August 10, 2021 in Punta Gorda, FL due to complications following a heart attack. As a young man Leroy enjoyed his life in the mountains of West Virginia. When he would talk about his childhood it could well have been a scene from THE WALTONS show that was popular on television for many years. On his 18th birthday he joined the Marine Corps and was always proud of the fact that he and two of his brothers served their country. On September 30, 1960 he married Bettyjean Baker Hoke and they were the parents of five children, Debbie Baker Johnson, Leroy Rogers, Jr., Kathy Rogers Beedle, Mark Rogers and Daniel Rogers. Leroy was a building contractor and worked on both residential and commercial buildings for many years. He worked in many different locations including Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and California, and always had interesting stories to tell from his experiences as a builder. After moving to Florida in 1977 he enjoyed some retirement but always kept busy. In 1994 his wife Bettyjean passed away. On April 9th, 1995 Leroy married Pat Lunsford and they enjoyed 26 plus years together before his untimely passing. In January of 1995 Leroy worked for Lykes Company of Pasco County and he and Pat enjoyed seeing the country while doing deliveries in the 18 wheeler. In September of 1996 the two of them started their own business of hay deliveries to ranches and stables in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. During the 20 plus years in this business they made many wonderful friends both from the farmers their dealt with as well as the customers they delivered to. In May of 2021, they fully retired and purchased a home in Harrisburg, IL a beautiful area of southern IL. They had almost completed their move and came back to get their final things in August when Leroy became ill and passed away shortly after. He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Debbie Johnson; son, Leroy Rogers, Jr. (Robin); daughter, Kathy Beedle (Jeff); son, Mark Rogers; and son, Daniel Rogers (Tehani). He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick and Robert Rogers; and four sisters, Virginia Lee Rogers, Betty Jean Rogers, Mary Lou Mauer and Delores Kent. Also, two grandchildren, Joshua and Christian Rogers and a stepson, Robert Lee Miller. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
