Obituary of Desmond R. Ifill

Desmond Rupert Ifill, the third son of Thelma Bailey Ifill and Raymond Ifill, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on August 14, 1937. Desmond served his community as a Police Officer in Port of Spain. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Bayfront Health, Port Charlotte FL with family members at his side. After moving to the United States in 1968 to East Orange, NJ. Desmond first worked at St. James Hospital in Newark,NJ. and later became a very successful car salesman. In 1980 Desmond decided to make his own hours and bought his first 18 wheeler truck. A few years later he bought his second 18 wheeler and Ifill & Son Inc. was born. Desmond owned the road for the next 35 years. Desmond realized his dream in 2010 and became a United States citizen along with his wife Elsa Rose. Desmond and Elsa eventually moved to Punta Gorda, Fl and he officially retired. Desmond spent the next two decades bringing his beloved trinidad to his Florida home growing mango, avocado, papaya, pineapple and citrus trees His neighbors knew if it was mango season, that knock at the door was probably Desmond dropping off a bag of mangoes. Desmond was a light hearted man, if you met him, you were his friend. He spoke to everyone and welcomed everyone. Never one to dwell on the negative for too long, he was always with a smile and a kind word. Desmond is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 60 years Elsa Rose.His children Charmaine, Lystra and John. Son in-law Gary, daughter in-law Theresa. Grandchildren Damon, Derick, Janae, Ryan, Rhea, Summer, Tesa & Tony. Sisters, Joyce and Gloria. Sister-in-law Joyce, brother in-law Krishna. Nephews, Jerry, Terrence, Raymond, David, and Kelly. Nieces, Ann Marie, Debbie, and Sandra. Eight great-grandchildren, Destiny, Sanaa, Damon Jr., Elijah, Reina, Cameron, and Tashonda. And numerous great nieces and nephews. And his boys Robbie and Zeke.
