Obituary of William W. Sours

William W. Sours, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Muncie, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital after battling cancer since January 2008. He was born in Muncie, IN on December 21, 1937. William W. Sours, known to family and friends as Bill, was an active member in his community. Bill served time in our military to the tune of 27 years in the Army (1953-1980) and 2 more years in the National Guard. Bill served 3 separate tours in Vietnam. Upon his retirement, his rank was SFC, E7. During Bill's civilian years, he continued to stay very involved with the community. He worked as a maintenance custodian at Port Charlotte Middle School. To this day there are many students who still fondly remember "Mr. Bill". He worked in the school system for 5 years. Bill went on to join the Charlotte County Sheriff's Auxiliary Reserves. He spent 5 more years there and made the rank of Lieutenant. Some fun activities Bill was involved in was the "over 50 group" in Port Charlotte. He and his wife, Phyllis bowled on a team for Bob Evans Restaurant. Bill was a member of the American Legion in Indianapolis, IN and the Disabled Veteran's Association, Chapter 82 of Port Charlotte. Bill is survived by his lovely wife, Phyllis Sours, of Port Charlotte, FL; two brothers, John Sours of Punta Gorda, Fl, and Marvin Sours of York Town, IN; 7 children; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grand children. William was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Gladys Marie Sours; 5 brothers, Leo, Leon, William J., Duane, Alvin; and two sisters, Jean Eyster and Betty Johnson. Family will receive friends at First Alliance Church of Port Charlotte, 20444 Midway Boulevard in Port Charlotte from 10-11:30AM Wednesday, March 10, 2010 with services beginning at 11:30AM with Pastor Phillip Gunn officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00PM with graveside military services at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 in Sarasota.
