Obituary of James M. Gunderson

James M. Gunderson, 93, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, FL. Mr. Gunderson was born June 28, 1917 in Clinton, Iowa to Oscar and Pearl (nee Evers) Gunderson and moved to this area 27 years ago from Chicago, Illinois. He worked as the chief stationary engineer at Mandel Brothers Department Store in Chicago, Illinois and was a member of Peace River Baptist Church in Punta Gorda. Mr. Gunderson and his wife, Ruth, reached a milestone by being married for 70 years. Mr. Gunderson is survived by his loving wife, Ruth C. (nee Stone) Gunderson of Port Charlotte; sons, Paul E. (Kathy McCloud) Gunderson of Punta Gorda and Thomas R. Gunderson of Port Charlotte; daughter, Carolyn S. Gunderson of Port Charlotte; and grandchildren, Shad, Jake, Tammy, Laura, and Tom Jr. "JR". Family will receive friends from 10-11:00AM on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Peace River Baptist Church, 478 Berry Street in Punta Gorda. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM at the church.
